5 Ways to Make Your Resolution Stick

The further we get into January, the easier it gets to slip up on New Year’s Resolutions we made with the intention of following through for an entire year or possibly even longer. Here are some things you can do to make your commitment last:

  • Write down your goals

Something happens when you put pen to paper. You visualize yourself reaching the goal you set in a way your mind can really grasp. Put a date to the goals you set. Revisit the goals you have written down regularly so you make sure you are still on track.

Example: “I will go to the gym three times per week between now and July 1st, 2015.”

  • Avoid temptation in your living space

Dietary resolutions are very popular. They can be very effective to jumpstarting your health in the new year. One great way to help yourself in your newfound diet is to concentrate on having willpower for half an hour at the grocery store so you don’t have it for 24 hours a day at home.

  • Have an accountability partner

Tell someone (your spouse, co-worker, friend) your resolutions/goals and have them check in on you periodically. Make sure to make this an enjoyable experience for them or good luck finding someone to help you out in 2016!

  • Celebrate your victories

Make sure you take time to acknowledge your progress and take joy in the goals you reach. It is important to train yourself to enjoy yourself when you have worked hard at something so you get used to wanting to go through this process again and again.

  • Visit your chiropractor on a regular basis

Whether it is to prevent yourself from getting injured as you embark on a new exercise program, or to allow your digestive system to function optimally as you cleanse from all the Christmas treats, a properly functioning nervous system will be very important to have as you continue to improve your life in 2015.

Happy New Year!
